home town news - at the gas pump

i used my card, punched the numbers equalling the amount i figured it would take to fill the tank. put the gas pump thingy in the car tank thingy, squeezed the handle thingy and it began to fill up with gas.
and i just stood there waiting, counting along.. thinking that the gas pump would automatically stop when it reached the amount that i had specified - because that is what it had done at other previous times.. but it might be that people, like me, complained because it stopped around $2.00 short of the amount paid.

like the time i.. had gone in to tell them. the guy at the counter attempted to reimburse me.. he’d tried 3, 4 times to get the register to open up. but it wouldnt do it.
come to find out, i’d been so concerned about getting my money back that i’d left the pump in the gas tank hole thingy of my car.
i’d been so embarrassed that i’d caused him frustrations .. needless to say, i’d since not gone there for gas or had someone else put gas in the car for me.

all this is because the gas station had made it automatic and required pre-pay because people would get gas and drive off without paying inside.

back to today, instead of the pump stopping, on it continued. i wasnt really expecting that so it had put in about 3 dollars more before my hands quickly stopped it.

well. this is mundane except that the customer next to me apparently did the same thing. except that he went in and complained to the people inside.
and he came out still upset about it.. letting me know how unfair it was that he had to pay $4.00 extra in order to get the desired full tank of gas.. just because he had control of when to stop the gas flow.
